The Greenhouse at
Reilly's Garden Center
Going Greener in the Greenhouse
We are continually striving to find ways to
grow greener and cleaner. This benefits you for many
reasons. We are nurturing a beautifully balanced ecosystem
in our greenhouse complete with good bugs sneaking around
nibbling on bad bugs, birds swooping in and out, butterflies
gracing our flora, and bees happily buzzing through pollen
drenched flowers.
You can come in and get lost in the sweet
smell of the flowers and know there is nothing but pure goodness
to breathe in. We can offer this because we don’t use
those nasty chemicals and we feed with organic fertilizer.
Shade cloth in the greenhouse helps conserve heat in the colder
months and reflects heat in the warmer months helping keep it
cooler in the greenhouse.
Passive cooling (no energy required) cools the
greenhouse in those hot summer months by opening side doors and
the roof, allowing fresh air circulating through all the time.
All these ways we find to cut cost are returned to you. We
have not raised our greenhouse prices in three years and this is
in part due to savings we make by going green. So there
you have it. A greener greenhouse benefits your health and
your wallet!

Terrariums
Terrariums are all the rage, and why not?
They are amazing little ecosystems perfect for adults and kids
alike. We can use any containers we like. Old jars,
jugs, bowls, vases, extra deep wine, martini, or margarita
glasses, and coffee cups and cake platters…you name it! My
recent favorite is a glass head I had laying around the house.
Plants, terrariums especially, allow you to become very creative
and get the little ones involved and hopefully hooked on a life
time of loving and nurturing other living things.

Looking Beautiful in April:
What is currently blooming?
Spring has sprung in the greenhouse and we
have flowers galore. Easter Lilies intoxicate the air with
their sweet scent. Daffodils, hyacinths, and irises are peaking
their brightly colored faces out in search of the sun. Pansies
are ready for your porch step and we have plenty of elegant
living table arrangements to grace your Easter table.

Plant These Now
Pansies, violas, butterfly daisy, and
columbine are all hardening off in our cold greenhouse right
now. Flowers are abundant and they can’t wait to be
planted and appreciated. Seed some fresh greens and plant
some pansies around the pot. Soon you will have a
delicious cool weather salad pot on your front stoop. Your
senses will delight in the early spring color and fresh greens
at your finger tips. I think I will put some out this
weekend; I just can’t wait any longer! If it gets too cold
we can just place a bath towel over them for the night.

Tips for the Season
A Fresh Awakening…and a Delicious
Spring and Summer Planting Guide
Spring is fickle and we never know what to
expect but one thing is for sure, every gardener gets the itch
right about now to dig in, feel the dirt. Before starting to dig
is good to have a plan. Everything I’ve been reading suggests
that edible gardens (herbs, fruit, and vegetables) are on the
rise. I know I plan on mixing some tomatoes and peppers
throughout my flower beds. It’s a great way to cut down on your
food bill and eat healthy. You can use this as a basic guide on
what to plant, when, and with other plants (interplanting).
